A new house – AGAIN!!

July 2012

So, after a year of living in our very small and pretty run down house in Mountain View we had decided that because we’d got Sophia into the school of our choice and the whole hassle of moving again would be a nightmare, that we would slum it in where we were for another year. That was until Yousri decided to put us on a month to month contract. Yousri, our landlord, lived over the road from us. Although I don’t think I’ve mentioned him in this blog he’d been a total thorn in our sides for the year. Always poking around uninvited in the garden and fixing things in the worse bodge jobs possible. He then decided to out the rent up by $200 and refused to even consider making the inside of the house a bit nicer. After we realised we were on month to month we decided to forget what we had agreed on earlier and get out of Mountain View and go down to San Jose. This has the obvious benefit of being closer to the Greenes and also being able to afford a much nicer house for a lot less rent. We managed to bag a lovely house on the 4th July (when everyone else was living up at street parties) and as we were the first ones to view it in the morning the lady promised it was ours. We breathed a sigh of relief as with loads of people after every house I was starting to feel like it wasn’t going to happen for us. The neighbourhood school on paper seemed ‘ok’ and so we enrolled Phia although this didn’t sit that easily with me after having done so much research in Mountain View. Still, as we’ve learnt living here, sometimes you just have to take a chance of things working out! The house is fabulous and lovely. Still on one floor, its roomy and spacious, has a big room for the kids and a separate one for us, a large garage and lovely ensuite bathroom (yay for 2 toilets!). It also has a lovely garden, just the right size and not big and unmanageable like the last one).
The first week in was a stressful one as everything seemed to be broken, the boiler, the dishwasher, the freezer, the blinds etc! Still the management company got it all fixed quickly (we thanked as lucky starts we were not renting of someone like Yousri) and since then its been plain sailing. We love it here.
