Tahoe without the skis

Granny and Pops arrived and there was no sitting still.  We did the pool (many times), the Greenes pool,  a Saber cats game for the boys, the pedalos on Almaden lake, a pops style treasure hunt, making s'mores on the firepit and games galore.  And of course a long weekend in Tahoe.  Even though it's summer it was a bit chilly at times, especially on a certain chair lift!  We cable car-ed one day and beached it the next two (broken up by watching England lose to Italy - boo)  We went up to look at the grassy hills that are now the ski runs, seems weird to think we'd all skied down them in February!  Lots of fun.

Hiyahhh!

Phia gets her yellow belt in Karate :)

The end of school and the pool!

So the pool finally opened on memorial weekend for the start of summer (the fact the summer never actually ended from last year seems to have passed everyone by!).  It's gorgeous and best of all it's almost always empty.  Seems no-one but us likes swimming round here.  Hurray!!  Sophia has officially turned into a fish and Tommy is changed boy too.  As long as he's got his ring on he loves it.

And school finally ended!  Although it's still only the beginning of June it got the point when it couldn't come soon enough.  Packing the last pack lunch till August (alright until camp) was a joyous occasion.  T graduated from Kindergarten (and Little Gym) and the holidays have begun.  First up, a visit from Granny and Pops....

The Big 100

So you know its hot when the thought of putting the oven on is so unbearable you let the kids eat sandwiches for lunch and tea 2 days on the trot (T thinks he's died and gone to heaven!)

We have of course been 'treated' to this type of weather before but it usually waits till July or August.  Its only the 15th of May.  Its like an oven out there.  Urrgg!

A girlie weekend by the sea

Sun, sea, sand, massages, beach bonfires, s'mores, margaritas, plenty of wine and lots of girlie chat.  Lorraine, Gillian and I spent the weekend at seascape in Santa Cruz (whilst the boys took the kids camping).  Fabulous :)

Easter Madness and Spring Break

Plastic egg shells, nasty candy, crappy toys, elbows out - its Easter Egg hunt time again!  Of course we did one and it was lots of fun (now we know what to expect!)  And of course parties at school.  Real rabbits for T courtesy of Phoenix!
Easter day was spent with the Greenes - Mexican food, strawberry daiquiris and swimming pool fun for the kids on a glorious day.  Great.
Then the long awaited week off school, Spring Break, came along as did Granny.  In her typical way she bought a day of rain with her so she has now seen all the winter rain this year :) but we had lots of fun anyway.  Beach and ice-cream in Capitola, organizing the garden, multi-cultural faire at Los Alamitos and trip to Berkeley and the Lawrence Hall of Science.  Oh, and 3 movies (this is what Sophia wrote about in her 'what I did for Spring Break essay'!) Frozen, Mr Peabody and Sherman and Turbo.  Enjoyed by all.
The month ended with record breaking temperatures - 95F on the 30th April.  Its cooled down a bit now but is set to be 100F next week.  Crikey, its going to be a long hot summer!  Summer 2013-summer 2014 is officially the year I never had to put my flip flops away!!
